Maize for Hungry Season

It feels like a broken record but here we are again. Consistently in the top 10 poorest nations in the world, Malawi’s issue with hunger is an ever-present reality. In 2023 Cyclone Freddy caused widespread damage and crop failures, in 2024 nationwide drought resulted in one of the poorest harvest in years, and here we are in 2025 with a nationwide shortage of food and sky-rocketing inflation, putting the cost of maize at 7 1/2 times the normal cost, and this cost is only expected to rise throughout the year until the next harvest in May of 2026.

Malawians are dependent on a good yearly harvest of maize for food security, as maize is their staple food source, but every year the population increases and the available food decreases.

While we know distributing food is not the answer to the overall problem, we do know that it can make the difference in life or death for families in Malawi.

We are hoping to purchase 900 – 50kg bags of maize to distribute to the needy people of rural Malawi. For $35 a bag, we will be able to purchase and transport maize to village churches to distribute to those in need. Each bag will feed a family of 4 for approximately 1 month.

Would you be willing help us provide much needed support to families in Malawi?
